New Progressive Talk Show Comes to Madison Area
The People’s Mic with Doug Cunningham joined the line-up of WXXM-FM – Madison’s Progressive Talk – The Mic 92.1 on November 14. The show can be heard locally and streaming weekdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“We are very excited about adding Doug and the People’s Mic to our daily line up,” said WXXM Operations Manager Tim Scott. “Doug’s passion and background coupled with the success of Mary Carol and Outloud makes WXXM FM the TRUE voice of Progressives in Madison, Dane County, and beyond.”
"The People’s Mic will be a megaphone for the powerless many that too often get drowned out by the powerful few,” Cunningham said. “It’ll be about taking the history-making energy of the original “occupy” action at Wisconsin’s capitol and turning that energy into action to put Wisconsin on the Forward! progressive path once again. And we’ll do the best we can to have some fun along the way!”
Doug, a proud member of the Chicago chapter of AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, is a highly experienced award- winning radio journalist who co-produces and anchors the Madison-based daily Workers Independent News national newscast. For more than five years he covered Wisconsin state government and the state's congressional delegation for Wisconsin Radio Network. His work has aired on hundreds of radio stations around the country.
Doug will be joined by regular guest Frank Emspak. Frank is a life-long labor activist and past president of his AFT local at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, where he recently retired from teaching at the School for Workers. He has written extensively on new technology and work organization, including investigations of factories in many parts of the world where work forces are involved in new ways of organizing their work. Workers Independent News grew out of a project of Frank’s at the School for Workers.
“Now, more than ever, the voices of community members and working people deserve a place on the airwaves,” Emspak said. “The People's Mic with Doug Cunningham can help provide this place for people to speak their minds and get information relevant to their concerns."
